Information & Communication Technologies

In a digital age and with rapid and continuing changes in the ways that people share, use, develop and communicate with information and communication technologies (ICT), our students need to be highly skilled in its use. They also need to learn to use ICT effectively, appropriately and safely, and make the most of the technologies available to them. Learning through technology is a strongly embedded teaching and learning focus at Poseidon Primary. Significant funding has been allocated to support ICT in the classroom, and this will be extended using Department of Education funding over the future years.

Poseidon has a computer laboratory in the library, with hubs in the Atlantis, Olympus and Athena teaching blocks, and computers and interactive whiteboards in all classes. Students utilise many learning technologies on a day-to-day basis to increase their understanding of topics and to provide a greater range of publishing methods. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all classrooms, giving teaching staff easy access to the internet and other software programs, and increasing the levels of student engagement. All students and staff have access to the Internet and an extensive range of educational software. Currently, the school is investigating how the use of wireless technologies, laptop computers and tablet devices could be introduced to the school to enhance student learning and provide our students with 21st century skills and understandings.
