Health Support Services

School Dental Service

The School Dental Service provides free general dental care to school children throughout Western Australia, ranging from Pre Primary through to Year 11. Care is provided by dental therapists under the supervision of dental officers from fixed and mobile clinics located at schools throughout the state.

The School Dental Service is primarily a public dental health program, with emphasis on prevention and education. Specialist treatment is not available, but referrals can be written if required. Furthers costs are the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Ocean Reef Primary Dental Therapy Centre services Poseidon Primary and can be contacted on 9307 4775.

School Psychology Services

School psychologists help schools meet the social, emotional, learning and behaviour needs of students. Working closely with the school administration, teachers, students and parents, the school psychologist helps schools make improvements that are good for all students, particular groups of students or individual students.

A school psychologist is available at Poseidon Primary to assist children with learning difficulties or behaviour problems. Referrals to the local school psychologist are made in consultation with parents and a collaborative problem solving approach is used in monitoring and improving student performance when concerns are identified.

School Nurse

A trained nurse visits Poseidon Primary regularly to carry out routine medical checks. Parents are advised if a child appears to require attention and parents can also initiate checks for their children. In some cases teachers may refer a child to the school nurse.

A health appraisal includes general physical assessment (eg. checking skin, hair, teeth etc) and observation of posture, gait and coordination.  Height and weight are measured, and vision and hearing are checked. The appraisal enables any issues to be identified, therefore allowing appropriate referrals to be made.

Requests for referrals for health issues can be made by parents or teachers at any time. For further information, please contact our Front Office.
