Newsletter Vol. 16

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to Term Four.  Events to look forward to this term are the school’s annual public speaking competition – “Speak Out” and participation in the National Outdoor Classroom Day on November 1.  It is also the last term of primary school for our Year Six students as they begin the process of transitioning to secondary school and preparing for their graduation at the end of year.

As many of you may already be aware at the last Board meeting in Term Three I announced my retirement and will be leaving the school and education at the end of this term. The process of selecting a new Principal has already commenced and I should be able to inform the school community of who this person will be sometime in early November.

If any parents know that their child/ren will not be attending Poseidon Primary School in 2019, could they please fill in the form at the bottom of the newsletter and return it to the Front Office as soon as possible.  Alternatively the information on the form can be emailed to poseidon.ps@education.wa.edu.au.  This information will help us in compiling the classes for 2019.

As applications for Kindergarten for 2019 are closing soon, if you have friends or family who have not yet enrolled their child into Kindergarten for 2019, please inform them to do so immediately.

Newsletter Vol. 15

Dear Parents and Carers

Term Three has been a very busy and enjoyable one with our Faction and Interschool Athletics Carnivals, the Interschool Cross Country Carnival, the RSPCA Cup Cake Day, Book Fair, One Big Voice Massed Choir, Spelling Competition, the Year 6 camp to Woodman Point and an extensive range of motivating and challenging learning experiences that have our students engaged in their learning.  All of these great activities don’t just happen and I would like to thank all the staff, teaching and non-teaching, for the dedicated, enthusiastic and professional manner in which they have worked as a team to make each event so successful.

Last Wednesday’s Learning Journey was exceptionally well attended by families in all classrooms. As I moved from room to room throughout the evening it was very evident that all students were very proud of the work that they had been doing throughout the term and had the confidence to lead their parents through the different aspects of their classes’ learning journey.

I wish all staff, students, parents and families a safe and happy holidays.

Newsletter Vol. 14

Dear Parents and Carers

Due to concerns over the comparability of the results between those students who completed this year’s NAPLAN online and those that completed the pencil and paper assessments the release of this year’s results have been delayed. The school has been informed that individual student reports will be delivered to schools from September 10, 2018 and after checks on the accuracy of each student’s personal and participation information have been made individual student reports will be sent home to parents and caregivers by the end of the Term Three, 2018. We have yet to be advised when the school will be able to access its data so staff can begin the process of analysis to inform future teaching programs.

Newsletter Vol. 13

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to congratulate all the members of our Interschool Cross Country Team on another excellent effort last Thursday, in which Poseidon finished third overall.

This result reflects the time and effort the students and staff have put into training for this event as part of the school’s daily fitness program which commenced at the beginning of Term Two.  Read on for more detailed results and pictures.

Newsletter Vol. 12

Dear Parents and Carers

It’s hard to believe that it is already Week Four of this busy and exciting term.  After a smooth start to the term, where in class the students quickly engaged with their learning, during daily fitness and physical education they began preparing for the planned athletic events.  Interschool Cross Country is scheduled for Week Five.   The Senior Choir will be taking part in the One Big Voice event in Week Five.  The school’s annual Spelling Competition is scheduled to be held in Week 8 which is in between the school’s Faction Athletics Carnival and the Interschool Athletics Carnival.

Our traditional fundraiser of the RSPCA Cupcake Day will be held on Tuesday August 14.  Families are asked to bring their donations to the undercover area in the morning.  Please contact Mrs Mugg if you can help sell the cupcakes from 9:30am.
