The Poseidon Library is full of new and classic titles. Our library staff regularly update the resources found in the library and around the school. There are many different displays created throughout the calendar year to recognise different authors and significant events.
Throughout the week, the library is opened at lunchtime for students to spend time with friends reading and playing quiet games.
Any parents/carers that would like to volunteer some of their time in the library are encouraged to contact Sasha Pearce, our Library Officer.
The Library Officer, Sasha Pearce works in the library on Tuesdays and in the front office on other days of the week.
Each class is allocated a set time each week to borrow books. Students are allowed to borrow 1-2 books depending on their year level.
We follow a strict – no library bag, no borrowing – policy. This helps to keep our library resources protected.
If a book is lost or returned damaged, the school will invoice the student’s parents /carer for the cost of the book. Please note that replacement books must be purchased through an approved supplier. Unfortunately, we cannot accept books purchased by individuals.
Students will not be allowed to borrow books until the invoice is settled.
Here at Poseidon Primary School we strongly promote literature and reading with our students. As part of this we participate in the Children’s Council of Australia Book Week and a book fair annually. The Book fair supports the schools ability to extend it’s reading resources. A separate area for borrowing for the Literacy Pro program is provided. Children progress based on their comprehension levels.
Parents are given the opportunity to expand their child’s home library through Scholastic Book Club on a regular basis throughout the year. Brochures are sent home with students showing the books available and their price. Payment for Scholastic Book Club orders is done through the Scholastic LOOP system. You can download the Scholastic Book Club LOOP app or go to www.scholastic.com.au/loop and follow the prompts.
